At Zion National Park in Utah next to Astragalus ampullarioides
I am a botanist interested in plant diversity and its origins, especially in the legume family (Fabaceae/Leguminosae).
I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the EEB Department at the University of Michigan in the lab of Stephen A. Smith. I completed my PhD in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona in Mike Sanderson’s lab. Prior to that, I did my master's degree in Botany at the University of Wyoming with the late Ron Hartman.
In my research I use molecular phylogenetics to investigate trait evolution in plants, including patterns of convergent evolution (homoplasy) in morphological traits and substrate (edaphic) specialization.
